Aalap Shah
After completing his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Vadodara in 2011, Aalap Shah studied drawing and painting at the Sheth C N Fine Arts College in Ahmedabad.
Passionate about experimenting, Shah moves fluidly between ink and charcoal, merging different techniques of printmaking and painting to create a unique idiom. Shah’s work is inspired by his interest in the mythology surrounding the poet Kabir and the Ramleela. He visits Varanasi frequently and annually spends a few months observing the lifestyle of Kabir-panthi families.
In 2014, Shah worked with the architect B V Doshi during his retrospective at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. More recently, Shah has been assisting artist Jatin Das. In the last decade, he has participated in numerous exhibitions in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
Aalap’s exhibit is titled Mala, an Acrylic on Canvas made in 2021.
