Basant Bhargava

Basant Bhargava takes inspiration from his name and celebrates ‘basant’, or the spring harvest season, in his paintings, which centre around nature. His landscapes do not refer to any specific place but rather to those he has created with his active imagination. The artist paints what he feels about what he has seen. He is interested in the abstract formulation of forms, and in giving life to form through colour.

Bhargava was born in 1974, and has worked on various themes through his artistic career, including the geographical diversity and beauty of India. Created with the help of a palette knife and thick brushstrokes, his works give the impression that the colours on the surface have taken on a life of their own.

In 2005, the artist held his first solo show at Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet and Kala Academy, Bhopal. His recent group endeavors include the National All India Fine Art and Craft Society Exhibition, New Delhi, in 2005; Expression Group Show at the Artist Center, Mumbai, in 2004; Hotel Jahanuma Place, Bhopal, also in 2004; and the ‘Raza Prize Exhibition’ at Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad, Bhopal, in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions throughout the country.

Bhargava’s exhibit is titled Cityscape, an Acrylic on Canvas made in the year 2021.
