Harshil Patel
Harshil Patel was born in 1982 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He attended the Sheth C.N. College of Fine Arts there, where he completed a diploma in Drawing and Painting in 1998. In 2008, Patel obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Slade School of Fine Arts at University College London.
His hometown of Ahmedabad prominently features in Patel’s compositions. Street scenes from the walled city form a large source of inspiration for the artist and several of Patel's works have been created on the streets of Ahmedabad.
In 2001, the artist exhibited his work in his first solo show at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Ahmedabad. He has since held other solo exhibitions including ‘Nagarnama’ and 'Nagarnama II' – at Marvel Art Gallery, Ahmedabad, in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Recent group exhibitions in which his works have featured include 'Window to Gujarat' in Mumbai, in 2008; Art Konsult, New Delhi, in 2007; and 'The Marvelous Show' in Mumbai/Ahmedabad in 2007.
The artist is the recipient of an array of awards and honours, including awards from the Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy in 2000, and from the Western Region Camlin Art Foundation in 2001 and 2002
His work with us is a mixed media work titled Transposing Myths: Nine Energies
