Jayesh Shukla
Jayesh Shukla, born in 1963 in Ahmedabad, received his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from C. N. School of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad. In 1989, he completed his Post Diploma in Print making from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.U. Baroda.
Shukla is an artist who is versatile in working on the mediums of print making, sculptures and paintings. This has given the artist an overall understanding of the visual language, his paintings are an amalgamation of depth and subtleness. Shukla's works are a commentary on human behaviour, and man as a social animal. He expresses this with a sense of humour which comes through in his paintings; this is not tongue and cheek but rather an underplayed one.
Shukla has participated in many group shows including, the Bombay Art Society, Bombay in 1983, A.I.F.A.C.S. in 1987, International Exhibition of Prints, Bhopal in 1989, Cymroza Art Gallery in 1990, and the Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi shows in 1995, 1996. The artist has also received awards from the Gujarat Lalit Kala Academy Award for Graphics in 1991 and 1995; the Gujarat Lalit Kala Academy Award for Painting in 1996; and the Gujarat Lalit Kala Academy Award for Sculpture in 1994 and 1997.
