Prof V M Sholapurkar

Known as an art educator, researcher and critic who wrote for TOI between 1968 to 1973, Sholapurkar pioneered creating terracotta jewelry, known for his wood inlay work  

V M Sholapurkar graduated from the JJ School of Art in 1954. Thereafter he taught in the Department of Drawing and Painting t JJ from 1957 till 1980 when he took voluntary retirement. Sholapurkar has been active in the field of research and art criticism for many years. Between 1968 and 1973 he was the art critic for Times Of India, Bombay. From 1982 to 1989 he worked as Dean of the Chamrajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) in Mysore. In 2008, he was awarded the Karnataka Rajyotsava Awar for a lifetime’s work in art and art education.
