Roma Patel

Born in 1986 in a small town of Kadi, Gujarat. She studied Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Sheth C. N. College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad.

Roma’s paintings are full of lyricism and subtleties that reflect youth, vigour, experience and maturity seasoned with the characteristic simplicity of the people who make art and culture an essential part of their lives. Her work is thought to surprise and move the spectator, to arouse feeling and transmit emotions. Her paintings drive the audience towards contemplation, meditation and introspection. Roma’s painting is solid, rigorous, sincere, warm and suggesting. It arrests the spectators’ attention and captivates their look and speech.

Roma’s work is intense. She paints with rigour and order. She prefers Ocher, Blue, White, and intensely cold colours and combines very light areas with dark bodies that generate tension, reveals balance and give the composition a serene dynamism. She introduces long and vigorous brushstrokes. On occasion, she uses cracking and, often introduces daring and expressive textures. She prefers the finish of the work to reinforce the expressive sense with exquisite visual and tactile sensory.

She has participated in many group shows in major cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Mumbai. In 2012, she received Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy award for Graphics and Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy award for Painting in 2014. She also received an award in the National Level Competition with the Kanoria Centre for Arts.

She lives and works in Ahmedabad.

Her exhibits with us are two mixed media on wood made in 2021 and one acrylic on canvas made in 2021.
