Shirdhar Iyer

Born in 1961, Shridhar Iyer is a self-taught artist who is known for exploring the spiritual through his canvas. He is also known for his use of unconventional material like khus, straw wood, matti and coir.

His works, exquisitely crafted, seem to embody the organic curves and flows of nature itself. The shapes he evokes are seeped in fluidity, much like the poses of the Indian classical dance – Odissi. The paintings are like poems in motion with a syntax and vocabulary that is both quintessentially Indian as well as contemporary and international at the same time.

The artist has had over 200 group shows, 15 solo shows, three installations and five films to his credit. He has exhibited all across India and also in Perth, Melbourne, California, San Francisco, Paris, London, Myanmar, Singapore, Damascus, Dubai, Munich and Holland.

Shridhar has served as Jury in various State and National Institutions and is a recipient of all major state and national awards including the Junior Fellowship and Senior fellowship, HRD, New Delhi.

His exhibit with us is an acrylic on canvas titled Jatra made in 2021.
