Sisir Sahana
Sisir Sahana was born in 1963 in Bankura, West Bengal. He teaches as a Professor in Ceramics & Glass, Department of Design in Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, India.
Sisir completed his B Fine Arts, M Fine Arts in painting from Kala-Bhavan, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, and went on to secure an Advanced Diploma in Stained Glass from Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design, London in 1993-94.
He is the recipient of the Merit Scholarship from Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan, and the Commonwealth Scholarship nominated by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India. He was also an invitee on a fellowship at Wheaton Village, USA by the Creative Glass Centre of America. Sahana has received awards from Samakalin Chitrakala Parishath, Assam; Bombay Art Society and Hyderabad Art Society. He has participated in various art exhibitions since 1987. He has participated in various art camps and group shows throughout India and has shown abroad at the Cochrane Theatre, London and Chon & Wolfe Young Artists’ Exhibition, London; Knap Gallery and Raw Gallery, London. He was visiting lecturer at the College of Fine Arts, JNTU, Hyderabad and also worked as Art Teacher in the Hyderabad Public School from 1989-93.
Sahana has held 35 solo exhibitions in India and many group exhibitions in India and overseas. He has also participated in group exhibitions, workshops in India, USA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Bangladesh and Egypt. He has also made two feature films and four documentary films.
Sahana’s exhibits with us are titled Old Seeds – 1 and Old Seeds – 3, made out of glass in 2019.
